Hey there! I hope you are having a great week.
Last time on ANCHORED, we talked about how easy it is to focus on what we don't have and forget what God has already given us. We explored why having more doesn't always mean having a better life, and how changing the way we look at our circumstances can help us recognize blessings we may have been overlooking.
If you missed it, you can check your email or click here to read it.
We need your support!
Anchored will always be completely free for everyone. That is never changing.
But if these teachings have encouraged you, challenged you, given you clarity, or helped you grow closer to God, I would like to invite you to support this ministry and help keep us going.

How do you know you're saved?
You believe in God. You go to church. You pray, read your Bible, and try to be a good person. Perhaps you even serve in your church and encourage others in their faith.
But here's something worth thinking about.
If someone asked you today, “How do you know you're going to heaven?” what would your response be?
And how confident would you be in that response?
It's one thing to believe you're saved. But what is that belief actually based on? Is your assurance of salvation grounded in Scripture or simply in what you've always believed?
These aren't questions meant to make you doubt your faith. They're worth asking because there's nothing more important than knowing where you stand with God.
The good news is that God hasn't left us to guess. The Bible helps us understand what salvation means, how we receive it, and where our assurance should come from.
So let's talk about it.
Salvation is a gift not a reward
One of the biggest misunderstandings about salvation is believing that being a good person is what makes us right with God. We sometimes think that because we attend church, pray regularly, give to others, or try to avoid sin, we've done enough to earn our place in heaven.
But that's not what the Bible teaches. Ephesians 2:8–9 tells us that we are saved by grace through faith, not by our own works.
In other words, salvation isn't a reward for being good enough. It's a gift we receive through faith in Jesus Christ.
Why does that matter?
Because none of us can honestly say we've lived a perfect life. We've all sinned, fallen short, and made choices that dishonor God.
That's why we need a Savior.
Jesus came to do what we could never do for ourselves. Through His death and resurrection, He made forgiveness and reconciliation with God possible.
Romans 10:9 teaches that salvation involves confessing Jesus as our Lord and believing that God raised Him from the dead.
But this isn't about simply repeating some words. It's about genuinely placing our faith in Jesus, recognizing our need for His forgiveness, and turning to Him as our Lord and Savior.
So if you're wondering whether you're saved, the first question isn't whether you've been good enough. It's whether you've fully placed your faith in Jesus Christ.
It's not because of what you've done
Imagine standing before God and being asked why you should be welcomed into heaven.
Would your answer start with something you've done, or with what Jesus has done for you?
There's a difference between those two answers, and understanding it changes how we look at salvation.
When Jesus died on the cross, He wasn't simply showing us how much He loved us. He was taking upon Himself the punishment for sins we could never make right on our own.
1 Peter 2:24 says, “He himself bore our sins in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness.”
Think about what that means.
The very sins that separate us from God were the reason Jesus went to the cross. He knew our failures, our weaknesses, and everything we would ever need forgiveness for. Yet He willingly gave His life for us.
And when Jesus declared, “It is finished” in John 19:30, He wasn't saying He had simply reached the end of His life. He had completed the work the Father sent Him to do.
This is why our confidence in salvation must start with Jesus. It's not about anything we could have done to deserve salvation, but what He has done to make it possible.
Can you really know you're saved?
The Bible doesn't leave us guessing about whether we can know we're saved.
In 1 John 5:13, John writes, “I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.”
John's message is clear. God wants those who believe in His Son to have assurance of their salvation.
In the preceding verses, 1 John 5:11–12, he explains that eternal life is God's gift to us through Jesus Christ. Whoever has the Son has life.
This means our assurance isn't based on how long we've been Christians, how much Scripture we know, or how well we've managed to live our lives. It's grounded in God's promise to those who have placed their faith in Jesus.
Now, this doesn't mean we can profess faith in Christ while having no desire to follow Him. Genuine faith involves accepting Him as our Savior and surrendering to Him as Lord.
But if you've genuinely placed your faith in Jesus, you don't have to live in constant uncertainty about your salvation. You can trust His finished work on the cross and the promise God has given us in His Word.
One last thing
If there's one thing I want you to take away from today's teaching, it's this: never lose sight of what Jesus has done for you.
If you've never surrendered your life to Christ, there's no better time to turn to Him. You don't have to get your life together first. Come as you are right now, acknowledge your need for His forgiveness, and place your faith in Him.
If you're ready to take that step, you can pray this prayer from your heart:
Heavenly Father, I acknowledge that I am a sinner in need of Your forgiveness. I believe Jesus Christ died for my sins and rose again. Lord Jesus, I surrender my life to You. Forgive my sins, change my heart, and help me follow You for the rest of my life. Thank You for loving me and making a way for me to be saved. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Thank you for praying that prayer. If you've sincerely placed your faith in Jesus, this is the beginning of a new life with Him. You won't have everything figured out immediately, and that’s okay. What matters now is that you keep trusting Him and learning to follow Him one day at a time.
And if you already belong to Christ but sometimes struggle with doubts, remember that your failures don't change what Jesus accomplished on the cross. When you fall short, repent and return to Him. His grace isn't an excuse to continue in sin, but a reason to live for Him.
Finally, don't let your knowledge of Jesus come only from your pastor, sermons, or Christian podcasts. Read His Word, spend time in prayer, and develop your own relationship with Him.
Because listening to others talk about Jesus isn't the same as personally knowing and following Him, and it's through Him alone that we receive eternal life.
