Hey there! I hope you are having a fruitful week.
Last time on ANCHORED, we explored one of the hardest questions God can ever ask: "Can you trust Me enough to let it go?" We discovered why letting go isn't about losing something, but learning to trust the One who holds it all.
If you missed it, you can check your email or click here to read it.
We need your support!
Anchored will always be completely free for everyone. That is never changing.
But if these teachings have encouraged you, challenged you, given you clarity, or helped you grow closer to God, there is now a simple way to support this ministry and help keep it going.
For just $3 a month (with 50% off your first month), you can become an Anchored Member. As a thank you, I'll also be sharing exclusive member resources in the coming weeks.
Every week, someone finds an Anchored teaching while searching for hope, answers, or encouragement. Your support helps make all of this possible, from writing these teachings to keeping them free and available for everyone who needs them.
If you'd rather make a one-off contribution, you can do that here: Support Anchored here God bless you. ❤️
Have you ever found yourself praying, "God, what do You want me to do?"
Maybe you're wondering whether to take a new job. Whether to stay where you are or move somewhere else. Whether to keep waiting or finally let something go. You keep praying, hoping God will make the answer obvious.
Sometimes you wish He would speak as clearly as He did to Moses through the burning bush. Or send an angel the way He did to Joseph.
Instead...
All you hear is silence.
I know that feeling because I experienced it before I started Anchored.
For months, I knew God had placed something on my heart. I wanted to help people who were struggling by sharing His Word. But I had no idea what that would look like. I didn't know where to start. I didn't know if anyone would read it. I didn't know if it would help anyone.
I kept waiting for God to show me the whole plan. Instead, He kept bringing me back to His Word. As I prayed over the months, He kept nudging my heart in the same direction. Eventually, I found the courage to take the first step, even though I still didn't know where it would lead.
Looking back now, I'm so glad He didn't show me every step from the beginning. If He had, I probably would have been overwhelmed. He simply asked me to trust Him with what was right in front of me.
And I wonder if that's exactly where some of us are today.
God doesn't usually give you the whole picture
One of the things that surprises me most about the Bible is how rarely God tells people the whole plan.
Take Abraham, for example. When God called him, He didn't hand him a map. He didn't explain every stop along the journey or tell him exactly how everything would unfold. Instead, Genesis 12:1 says: "Go from your country, your people and your father's household to the land I will show you."
Did you notice that?
Not the land I have shown you. The land I will show you. God asked Abraham to start walking before he knew where he was going. I don't know about you, but I would have wanted a few more details.
Where am I going?
How long will it take?
What happens when I get there?
But God didn't answer any of those questions. He simply asked Abraham to take the first step.
Looking back, I realise that's often how God works. We want the whole map. God gives us the next step.
Stop waiting for perfect clarity
One of the biggest reasons we stay stuck is because we are waiting for complete certainty. We tell ourselves, "Once I know exactly what God wants me to do, then I'll take the first step."
But that's rarely how God works.
Think about some of the people God used most powerfully throughout the Bible. Abraham. Moses. David. Esther. The disciples. None of them started their journey because they could see the whole picture. They simply trusted God with the next step.
The same is true today. Most ministries, businesses, charities, and missions that have impacted thousands of lives didn't begin with someone knowing exactly how everything would turn out. They began with one step of faith.
That reminds me of Psalm 119:105: "Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path."
Have you ever noticed what that verse doesn't say? It doesn't say God's Word is a floodlight showing the next ten years. It says it is a lamp.
A lamp gives you just enough light to take the next step.
I think that's where many of us struggle. We want floodlights. God gives us a lamp.
Not because He is trying to make life difficult, but because with every step, He invites us to trust Him a little more.
Pay attention to what God has already made clear
It's easy to spend so much time asking God about tomorrow that we forget what He has already said about today.
You may not know where you'll be five years from now. But you already know He wants you to love people. To forgive. To be honest. To serve. To pray. To grow in your relationship with Him.
Start there.
Very often, God's direction becomes clearer while we are being faithful with what He has already placed in front of us.
You don't steer a parked car. You steer a car when it's already moving.
What to do when you don't know what God is calling you to
Start with what you already know: You may not know your calling yet. But you probably know the next right thing to do. Make the phone call. Apply for the job. Volunteer at church. Take the course. Share the word of God with one friend. Send the application. Don't ignore today's step because you're waiting for tomorrow's answer.
Stop comparing your journey to someone else's: Social media has a way of making everyone else's life look perfect. But you're only seeing the part of their journey they chose to share. You don't know how many prayers came before that opportunity. You don't know how many closed doors they walked through before the right one opened. God writes every story differently. Don't rush yours because someone else's seems to be moving faster.
Ask God for wisdom, then move forward: Sometimes we think every decision needs a special sign from heaven. But God has already promised to give wisdom to those who ask. James 1:5 says: "If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you." Pray. Read God's Word. Seek wise counsel. Then make the best decision you can with the wisdom God has given you. Don't let the fear of making the wrong decision stop you from making any decision at all.
One last thing
There is something beautiful about the way God led the Israelites through the wilderness. He didn't show them the Promised Land on the first day. He gave them enough for that day.
A cloud by day. A pillar of fire by night. Manna for the morning. Tomorrow's provision never came today. It came when they needed it.
Maybe that's why God doesn't always tell us the whole plan. If He did, we might start trusting the plan more than the One leading us.
If you're waiting for God to reveal everything before you move, you may be waiting a long time. But if you're willing to trust Him with the next step, you'll often find that He reveals the next one when you get there.
And sometimes, the greatest act of faith is simply taking the next step He has already placed in front of you.
