Hey there! I hope you had an awesome week.
Last week on ANCHORED, we talked about disappointment with God and what it means to stay honest in seasons where things don’t turn out the way we hoped.
Thank you to everyone who shared it, or sent a kind message. God bless you.
If you missed last week’s message, you can check your email or click here to read it.
As God’s children, we want to do well in life. We want to grow. We want to be faithful with the gifts we’ve been given.
So we keep going.
We keep pushing.
We stay busy.
Gradually, we start to ignore something critical:
Rest
Not sleep.
Not taking a day off.
But true rest.
This is usually because we’ve learned to associate movement with progress.
So even when our bodies need time off, our minds refuse to let us take it.
You can feel the exhaustion building. But instead of resting, you start thinking about:
What you should be doing.
What you haven’t completed.
What everyone else seems to be accomplishing.
The bills you have to pay.
You tell yourself things like:
“I’ll rest after this.”
“I just need to push a little longer.”
“I can’t afford to slow down right now.”
And slowly, your subconscious mind begins to associate rest with irresponsibility.

Why rest feels difficult
Somewhere along the way, many of us learned that working hard is a sign of faithfulness.
We point to the story of the servant who multiplied what he was given and say,
“This is what God expects.”
So we keep producing.
We keep striving.
We never pause.
But faithfulness was never about doing more than God asked us to do.
Choosing rest when it’s needed doesn’t mean you lack commitment.
Slowing down doesn’t mean you lack discipline.
Constant striving will only wear you down.
And the truth is, you can be faithful with what God gave you
and still be doing more than He asked you to.
If ANCHORED has blessed you, consider supporting this ministry! ❤️

What God says about rest
Rest was never meant to be a reward for finishing everything.
It was built into the way God designed life.
On the Seventh day of creation, God rested.
Not because He was tired.
But because rest is essential.
Exodus 20:8 says,
“Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.”
Here, God reminds us that rest was a part of His design.
Too often, we forget that the world does not depend on us.
We forget that God is the one holding everything together.
Rest is not a waste
This is an important reminder.
Rest heals your mind, body and soul.
When you rest, you are choosing to trust God with your burdens.
When you rest, you are saying,
“I am human.”
“I have limits.”
“I do not need to be in control all the time.”
Jesus understood the need to rest
Jesus did not show up everywhere.
He stepped away from crowds.
He withdrew to quiet places.
He rested.
In Mark 6:31, Jesus says,
“Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.”
At that point, the work wasn’t finished. But Jesus still invited his disciples to rest.
That should tell you something.

What happens when you don’t rest
When you ignore rest, something else always pays the price.
Your joy
Your peace
Your health
Your prayer-life
You may still be showing up.
But giving from an empty place.
That is not the life God intended for you.
Rest creates space for God
When you rest, things start to feel clearer.
And it becomes easier to hear God.
Psalm 46:10 says,
“Be still, and know that I am God.”
Sometimes the most faithful thing you can do is to stop trying to fix everything.
Rest and trust the God who knows how to fix it all.
Hear this
If you feel tired right now, it is okay to rest.
If you need to slow down, take some time off.
You were not created to constantly hold things together.
That’s God’s role.
Not yours.
One last thing
Rest is not something you earn.
It was part of God’s plan for you.
You do not need to prove anything to Him.
As you move through this week, remember this:
Rest is not a reward.
It is how God restores you.
